Just Because You Work Don't Mean You Get Paid

If you don't recognize the title, it's lyrics from a Nashville Pussy song. What? You thought I may be a fan of Taylor Swift? Not likely. So why that title?
I self-publish most of my work. Every once in a while a project or publisher catches my eye, and I think I want to be part of whatever is going on, though it always brings me headaches. The last publisher I worked with is no different. Not going to name names, because I still want my money and books, but renumeration is months past due and emails aren't getting answered. I have heard from other authors involved with the publisher that there are money problems. I give indie publishers some grace, but patience has its limits and I am reaching mine. I think there is a chance the person whom I am contacting no longer works for the publisher, but he sent my contract, so I'm starting there. I know my other contact definitely does not work for it anymore.
The lesson here? Indie publishers are still worth buying from and working with, but they can be a real pain in the ass.
