Opinions, they say, are a lot like assholes -- everybody's got one. Except, it seems, when it comes to writing book reviews. For an independent writer, reviews are lifeblood. It's how others tend to discover the author's work. They are essential, and they are needed.
My plea to you readers and writers is to leave reviews for the books you read. Do it on Amazon and Goodreads. Mention the book on Facebook and Twitter. Think of all the good you will do for the author (assuming it is a positive review). Think of how smart you'll appear to your FB friends who only ever sound off on pumpkin spice and the weather. It's a win-win, and I for one will thank you.
